Baden has always played an important role on the political stage. For example when the Swiss drove the Habsburgs out of Baden and out of large parts of the canton of Aargau through a coup de main in 1415. The spa town became the home of the Swiss Confederal Diet and thus the secret capital of the old Confederation. Even today, Stein Castle and the Swiss Confederal Diet hall in the town hall are witnesses of that time. Both historical places are visited on this tour.
